Handle with Care

A pretend play exhibit at the Great Lakes Science Center that follows the package delivery process from start to finish.

In collaboration with exhibit designer Karen Katz.

At the Great Lakes Science Center, this colorful, warehouse-themed exhibit walks visitors through a simplified version of how care packages are assembled, sorted, transported, and delivered. Deliberately collaborative, packages that guests assemble themselves are taken to a series of conveyor belts, loaded onto a child-scale forklift and similarly-sized delivery truck, and eventually taken to their destinations: faux homes and businesses. In the center of the room, a free-standing storage bay climber lets visitors ascend to access an elevated talk tube mouthpiece (the corresponding end is on the ground on the outside of the structure) and look out over Lake Erie using an attached viewing scope.
